Antitranspirant Agent

Antitranspirant agents (or antiperspirants) reduce perspiration - not to be confused with deodorant agents.

Antitranspirant agents (or antiperspirants) act by causing a slight inflammation of the sweat glands which in turn provokes hyperkeratosis. As a consequence, this decreases gland diameter and even can block the sweat glands, eventually stopping sweat secretion. This also produces an aluminum hydroxide gel which acts as a cork in the canal.

Among antitranspirant agents:
• Aluminum Bromohydrate
• Aluminum Chloride
• Aluminum Chlorohydrate
• Aluminum Chlorohydrex PEG
• Aluminum Chlorohydrex PG
• Aluminum Citrate
• Aluminum Dichlorohydrate
• Aluminum Dichlorohydrex PEG
• Aluminum Dichlorohydrex PG
• Aluminum Sesquichlorohydrate
• Aluminum Sesquichlorohydrex PEG
• Aluminum Sesquichlorohydrex PG
• Aluminum Sulfate
• Aluminum Zirconium Octachlorohydrate
• Aluminum Zirconium Octachlorohydrex GLY
• Aluminum Zirconium Pentachlorohydrate
• Aluminum Zirconium Pentachlorohydrex GLY
• Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrate
• Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex GLY
• Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex PEG
• Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex PG
• Aluminum Zirconium Trichlorohydrate
• Aluminum Zirconium Trichlorohydrex GLY
• Sodium Aluminum Xhlorohydroxy Lactate
• Potassium Alum (hone from alum, although natural, it acts the same way as aluminum salts)
• Ammonium Alum

N.B.
Disagreeable odor does not come from sweat itself, but from its degradation by bacteria present on skin surface.

Three means exist to rid bad odors:
• Acting on sweat secretion, through the use of antiperspirant agents (or antitranspirants).
• Acting on bacterial flora to avoid sweat degradation, through the use of antiseptic deodorant agents.
• Acting on already decomposed sweat, through the use of odor-absorbing agents (This solution never is used alone but in conjunction with one or both of the others.).
