EU Ecolabel

Created in 1992, the European Eco seal of approval is the only official European ecological seal usable in all the Member States of the European Union. It is delivered, in France, by AFNOR Certification, independent certification body. It is a voluntary mark of certification of products and services.

It rests on the principle of a comprehensive approach which takes into account the life cycle of the product starting from extraction of the raw materials, through manufacture, distribution, and use, until its recycling or elimination after use. Quality and use, like the packaging in the case of certification of products, are also taken into account.

On the level of cosmetics, the attribution of  this seal concerns products of hygiene such as soaps, shampoos and conditioners.

Certified characteristics are the following: avoiding water pollution by limiting the quantity of potentially harmful ingredients and the total toxic load of the product; limiting the production of waste by reducing the quantity of packaging; limiting or preventing environmental risks related to the use of dangerous substances.
